The Trenchard Foundation funds scholarships for students in the Nebraska College Preparatory Academy (NCPA). NCPA prepares first-generation and low-income students to achieve excellence throughout high school and college. Students enroll in NCPA their first year of high school and are challenged to grow professionally and academically through personal advising, tutors, mentors, life-skill seminars, personal wellness coaching, summer camps, and more. The Trenchard Foundation assists in covering the cost of college at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, including tuition, books, room and board, and fees for students who complete the NCPA high school requirements.
NCPA support services continue throughout college. In fall 2017, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will name the retention program that serves NCPA college students the Trenchard Foundation Institute of Excellence. Through the support of the Trenchard Foundation, students receive one-on-one meetings with NCPA retention coordinators, individualized retention plans, and grade-specific seminars. They also attend social, leadership, and character building events throughout the year. As a result of these intensive student services, NCPA scholars have a 90% college retention rate (8% higher than the UNL average), and an 80% graduation rate (13% higher than the UNL average). The Trenchard Foundation is proud to provide these services to support our overarching goal: making a college education available to all.
